Abstract

The research aimed to explain the concept of sustainable development and its indicators and to see the reality of sustainable development in Iraq. And stand on the challenges and obstacles to sustainable development in Iraq and ways to achieve them. And clarify the obstacles to the role of the United Nations in supporting sustainable development in Iraq. The research problem crystallized in answering the following question: What are the obstacles to the role of the United Nations in supporting sustainable development in Iraq? The research relied on the historical approach in addition to the descriptive analytical approach. The research reached several results, the most important of which is that the United Nations, in its quest to achieve sustainable Iraqi development, faced obstacles and pitfalls, foremost of which was what Iraq suffered from the scourge of war and serious conflicts in addition to the presence of the American occupation. In addition to the absence of democracy in Iraqi society. These obstacles negatively affected the role of the United Nations in achieving sustainable development in Iraq.
