Abstract

Waste management is an important issue in Iraq due to the associated environmental and health challenges. It involves implementing measures and policies aimed at safe and environmentally friendly waste disposal, as well as regularly monitoring the processes related to waste management to ensure the effectiveness of those policies. It requires stringent environmental legislation to preserve the environment and reduce pollution levels, especially regarding hazardous waste (harmful chemicals). Enhancing environmental awareness among individuals and communities is an essential part of the fundamental steps towards environmental sustainability and contributes to stimulating positive changes in environmental practices. Effective waste management is a collective responsibility shared by individuals and governments, and collaboration between them reduces the challenges facing this issue.
