Abstract

ccording to official sources, Iraq has been witnessing, for years, an unprecedented outbreak of drug abuse in various regions of the country, after it was previously just a crossing point for it, but it has now turned into a drug-consuming country, especially “narcotic medical drugs that are now sold on the sidewalks, where they have a strong demand for consumption.” It seems that Iraq has joined the ranks of countries that suffer from drugs and are facing this new serious challenge in society, especially the youth and both genders. Many parties are secretly promoting narcotic substances that are foreign to Iraqi society, most notably hashish and crystal, which has led to the spread of cases of addiction. Especially among teenagers. Especially in the central and southern regions, this hampers any efforts for sustainable development in Iraqi society.
