Abstract

The entire world faces many challenges that vary in terms of the severity of their impact and the extent of their danger. These challenges take multiple forms and different sources from one challenge to another. One of the most influential and dangerous of these challenges is the climate change, which is considered as a fateful and existential threat that includes the entire population of the world. As a result, governmental and non-governmental institutions, as well as the United Nations, moved towards exercising their role effectively to confront this challenge through the studies they carried out to cover this topic. It monitored indicators of climate change embodied in the phenomenon of global warming, which has led to an increase in the temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere with an increase in the levels of gases in it. This is in addition to other indicators present on the surface of the Earth, represented by the rise in sea levels due to the noticeable melting of ice. These facts and many others prompted countries, collectively and individually, to pay attention to this event, take it into consideration, and hold international conferences and scientific studies regarding it.
Iraq is considered as one of the countries under the influence of climate change significantly for several reasons, including its geographical location, which is subject to a noticeable rise in temperatures and is affected by lows and highs. Accordingly, the Iraqi government took the necessary measures to confront climate change and emphasized the ministries producing energy (oil and electricity) to act in an integrated and harmonious manner for the gradual transition to clean energy. The parliamentary committees on health and environment contributed to these measures.
